A short lime route reaches a lit doorway beside a blank route slip

The Agency gives a solo GTA Online player several different kinds of work. Security Contracts are individual jobs chosen from the office computer. Payphone Hits are Franklin’s jobs with specific bonus instructions. The VIP Contract is the longer Dr. Dre story strand.

Choose between those routes before accepting a task. A short recovery job and a multi-part story are different commitments, even though they begin from the same property. Your best next action depends on what you have unlocked, how much reliable time you have and which kind of mission you want to play.

This guide covers the current GTA Online, not GTA VI multiplayer. Official sources were checked on 14 October 2026. It explains the documented unlocks and a practical way to handle the work without guessing current payouts or cooldowns.

What you need before starting Agency work

The Agency is an owned property. Rockstar’s property guide identifies its office computer as the launch point for Security Contracts and the VIP Contract. It is distinct from an Executive Office, apartment or other business with a computer.

If you already own one, visit it and complete any introductory prompts. If you are considering buying one, compare the available locations in the game’s property listing and read the current cost before choosing. Think about how its roads and entrance fit the parts of the city you use most.

Do not add every optional feature before learning one contract. Rockstar describes the Armory, Vehicle Workshop and Accommodation as optional additions that can be purchased or renovated later. The Armory supports equipment needs; the workshop gives access to modifications and Imani Tech on compatible vehicles. Neither should be confused with buying the basic property.

At the office computer, follow any current registration request, then inspect the available contract pages. If a page is locked, read its condition. A locked activity is not a reason to buy another optional room blindly.

Separate the three work routes

Route Where it begins What to learn first
Security Contract Agency office computer The specific objective and how completion is confirmed
Payphone Hit Franklin’s phone option or a ringing payphone after the unlock The method required for the bonus
VIP Contract Agency story progression and its office-computer page The current story step and its preparation requirements

Rockstar’s official Contract overview uses a simple introductory order: establish the Agency, complete a Security Contract, then meet the VIP. Its older event description explicitly says at least one Security Contract is required to open the VIP route.

For Payphone Hits, a later Rockstar announcement is more precise: Agency owners who have completed three Security Contracts can request a hit from Franklin or answer a ringing payphone. That is a different threshold from the first VIP step.

A useful start is therefore to learn three completed Security Contracts, inspect Franklin’s available options and then decide whether to begin the longer story. Those are completed jobs, not just three visits to the computer.

Choose your first Security Contract by its task

Rockstar describes recovery, vehicle collection, rescues and asset defence among Security Contract work. Read the type and offered information before accepting. The highest visible reward is not automatically the easiest first solo job.

A recovery job asks you to get something back and complete its return. A rescue asks you to protect someone as well as reach them. An asset-defence task asks you to prevent damage over a period of pressure. Those objectives should change the way you approach the mission.

For a first attempt, choose a task you can understand from the briefing. If you are comfortable driving but still learning aim, you may prefer a route whose main obstacle is collection and a return journey. If you enjoy on-foot combat, a recovery with a clear sheltered approach may appeal more. These are preferences, not guarantees that a random variant will be simple.

Allow extra room for the first run. You are learning the entry point, enemy placement, objective interaction and final confirmation. A later repeat can be quicker because those questions are already answered, but this guide does not claim a tested completion time.

Recovery work: protect the thing you are collecting

Before entering a recovery area, decide where to leave your vehicle. You need a sensible approach for the fight and a way to leave once the objective is obtained. Parking in the centre of hostile activity can create a second problem when you are ready to escape.

Use cover to reduce the number of enemies who can shoot at you at once. Clear an immediate safe path, then follow the search or collection instructions. Do not assume defeating the visible enemies completes an objective that still asks you to locate an item or interact with a container.

If the task concerns a vehicle, avoid using explosives close to it. A weapon that ends the fight quickly can also destroy the object you were hired to recover. Check its condition and the next prompt before driving away.

On the return, read whether there is another condition to meet. A wanted level, pursuers or a required entry point may matter. Navigate carefully, and slow down near the Agency entrance instead of turning the final approach into an avoidable collision.

Rockstar’s Criminal Enterprises improvements added Agency return access via helicopter or the roof entrance for Security Contracts. Use that option when it genuinely suits your equipment and the current job. You do not need to buy a helicopter simply because the entrance exists.

Rescue and defence: your own survival is only half the job

In a rescue, reaching the client does not remove the need to keep them safe. Look at the mission’s condition markers and instructions. Move in a way that lets you protect the person instead of sprinting far ahead while threats remain beside them.

Clear enough space to reach the pickup vehicle or next destination. Choose a route with room to brake and turn. The fastest car you own may not be the most comfortable tool if its handling makes passenger protection difficult.

Defence work asks you to watch what attackers are doing to the protected assets. Staying alive behind one wall can still lead to failure if you ignore enemies damaging the objective elsewhere.

Find a position with a useful view, identify the nearest threat to the asset and move when the pressure changes. Reload while there is room, rather than waiting until the next wave is already beside you. If you keep failing the same type, practise a more manageable combat job before retrying it.

The combat practice guide provides a repeatable cover, aim and recovery routine. Use that before spending on equipment whose benefit you cannot yet identify.

Payphone Hits: read the bonus instruction before acting

A Payphone Hit is not simply “go to the marker and shoot”. Rockstar’s overview says these jobs give bonuses for following instructions. That makes the required method part of the objective.

When Franklin introduces the job, let the information arrive and read it. Identify the target, the required method and any equipment or location the task points you towards. Then prepare that approach before attacking.

The ordinary target marker can tempt you to act too early. If the bonus asks for a particular setup, killing the target immediately may complete the basic hit while losing the bonus condition. Know which outcome you are attempting before firing.

Treat an unfamiliar method as a small puzzle. Where does the required tool come from? Does the task ask you to wait for a situation? Does it specify a vehicle or a particular point on the route? Follow the visible information rather than improvising from a half-remembered clip.

If the timer is running short, make a deliberate decision about the remaining objective. Do not spend the last moments repeatedly attempting an impossible setup while also losing track of the target. A first attempt can teach you the method even when its bonus is missed.

After completion, inspect the actual result and Franklin’s current availability. The official pages checked for this article establish the unlock and bonus principle, but not a universal current cooldown or reward figure for every case. Use the displayed response for the next request rather than repeatedly calling based on an old number.

The VIP Contract is a story route, not one small job

The main VIP story concerns recovering Dr. Dre’s missing music. Rockstar describes The Contract as an adventure for solo players and groups. Follow the introductory meeting and then the available work on the Agency’s VIP Contract page.

Treat the board as a map of your current progress. Read which investigations or preparation steps are available, what has been completed and which mission is next. Do not assume that owning the property means every later mission is immediately selectable.

A sensible first goal is to finish one confirmed stage. That may mean an introduction, a preparation task or one of the investigation branches. After its result, return to the board and check what changed.

Before a larger mission, prepare ammunition, armour and your recovery controls. Read any equipment conditions. For combat, approach the first area carefully rather than assuming the whole story can be solved by driving directly to each marker.

When a mission asks you to search or interact, pause your rush and look at its instruction. Story work often changes from travel to combat to an objective interaction. Completing one of those phases is not necessarily the end of the mission.

Reserve a dependable session for the later stages. Cutscenes, unfamiliar interiors and a difficult fight can make your first completion much longer than a familiar replay. Budget around your own learning rather than a speed-run headline.

Choose a stopping point after a saved result

The most useful stopping point is a completed result followed by a confirmed next prompt. A phone call in the middle of a mission or reaching a destination without finishing its interaction is a less reliable boundary.

After a Security Contract, confirm completion and inspect what is available next. After a Payphone Hit, check the result and any unlock messages. After a VIP stage, revisit the board and note the next mission name.

If you are interrupted, do not assume unfinished work survived a disconnect. Reopen the relevant Agency page and inspect the actual state. That tells you whether to continue or repeat a stage without inventing a repair purchase.

A note such as “VIP board: next mission is the one shown under this investigation” is more helpful than “nearly finished everything”. Keep the exact name when possible. The interrupted-session plan helps make those notes short enough to use next time.

Do you need the Armory or Vehicle Workshop yet?

Buy an optional feature when it answers a recurring need. If equipment trips repeatedly interrupt your chosen routine, inspect the Armory’s actual benefits and cost. If you want a compatible Imani Tech vehicle modification, inspect both the workshop requirement and the vehicle’s eligibility.

Do not assume an Imani Tech upgrade applies to every car. Rockstar’s property guide says certain vehicles support these options. Buying a workshop and then discovering your chosen vehicle is incompatible is an avoidable mismatch.

For mission progress, improved decisions can be cheaper than new equipment. A better entry angle, a clear objective and a reload behind cover may remove the problem that made a purchase seem urgent.

Keep some money unspent while learning. Once you know which Agency activity you enjoy repeating, you can judge an optional feature against that route. The solo progression guide helps connect investments to observed problems rather than a long universal shopping list.

A practical solo evening

Here is a hypothetical plan. You enter an invite-only session, visit your Agency and choose one familiar Security Contract. After its confirmed result, you inspect Franklin’s available work. If a Payphone Hit is available and you want it, you accept and read the bonus condition before moving.

If you have a longer reliable window, you advance one VIP stage instead of adding several unrelated activities. If you are tired or likely to be interrupted, you finish at the result and leave the next board entry noted for another evening.

That plan does not promise two jobs in a fixed number of minutes or a certain income. It gives you a clear choice at each boundary. You stay in control of the evening rather than accepting every new icon because it appeared.

The Agency becomes useful when its options are easy to distinguish. Learn a Security Contract, unlock and understand Payphone Hits, then take the VIP story in confirmed stages. Each route can fit solo play, but each asks you to pay attention to a different kind of objective.
